Tourism is an enviable part as it plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country. It is considered to be the backbone for the growth of a country’s economy. In 1980, UNTWO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) declared 27th September as World Tourism Day with a motive to disseminate and spread the value of tourism in the development of socio-economic and cultural spheres of the country and human lives, the day marks the display of plethora of different activities and performances around the globe.
Celebrating World Tourism Day in its full swing, Delhi Tourism had also organized special cultural programmes/band performances across all its Dilli Haats and the Garden of Five Senses offering free entry for senior citizens and children.
Further maintaining the true spirit and intent of this day, Delhi Tourism ensured the inclusion of all, special sightseeing tours were arranged for differently abled children and senior citizens by the tourism division.
World Tourism Day also stands as a unique opportunity to raise awareness about a country’s tourism potential. To showcase Delhi’s distinctiveness as a travel destination, Dept. of Delhi Archives, Govt of Delhi, brought together some of Delhi’s best-hidden secrets from their collection for an exhibition, ‘Heritage City- Delhi’, across all Dilli Haats. The exhibition will be on display till 10th October, 2018.
Since travelers today wish to spend their time differently to the way they did in the past, seeking out experiences rather than just places, Delhi Tourism also keeps reinventing its offerings. Therefore, all the visitors at Delhi Tourism’s properties were given a cultural welcome to celebrate the day and bring them closer to a local experience.
