Jind, Feb 3, 2024: The Foundation for Development Initiative (FDI) and NatWest Group India have partnered to launch a project called 'Harit Dhara, Saaf Vayu' in the Jind district of Haryana. The project aims to address the issue of crop residue burning.

The launch event took place at Hameti Auditorium in Jind, Haryana, and was attended by various dignitaries including Dr. Ranpal Singh, Vice Chancellor of Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, and Nihal Singh, Deputy Director of Agriculture (DDA), Jind.

The event also saw the participation of senior members from NatWest Group and FDI, along with over 150 farmers and stakeholders.

During the event, Ranpal Singh highlighted the importance of stopping stubble burning due to its negative impact on public health and the environment. He praised the initiative for providing farmers with alternatives, as burning stubble is often the only option available to them.

Saurabh Gupta, Chief Financial Officer & Head of Finance Hub, NatWest Group India, spoke about the company's commitment to addressing climate change and promoting sustainable practices. He shared insights on the environmental initiatives undertaken by the group, such as ecological restoration and waste reduction.

Tania Chatterjee, Head of Sustainability, NatWest Group India, appreciated the efforts of FDI in tackling the issue of crop residue burning. She emphasized the need to prevent this practice as it has a significant negative impact on the environment.

Through the project and partnership with FDI, the goal is to work with farmers and local communities to encourage the use of sustainable farming methods and raise awareness about the importance of adopting environmentally conscious practices.

Vijay Singh, President of FDI, expressed his pleasure in partnering with NatWest Group India. He highlighted the increasing levels of air pollution and its impact on the environment and economies.

The 'Harit Dhara, Saaf Vayu' initiative aims to assist farmers in adopting environmentally friendly alternatives to stubble burning, leading to improved soil health and reduced air pollution levels.

The partnership between FDI and NatWest Group India will promote sustainable agriculture practices, specifically Crop Residue Management and Direct Seeding of Rice, in Jind.

The project will cover 7 blocks, 96 villages, and 18,708 acres of farmland, benefiting over 5,492 farmers.

During the event, farmers who had adopted Crop Residue Management in 2023 were honored and provided with certificates and seeds.

Stubble burning has been a persistent problem in North India, particularly during the winter season, causing various environmental issues. In 2021, Jind had the third-highest number of fire incidents related to stubble burning in Haryana, accounting for nearly 14% of the total cases in the state.
