IGNCA is fulfilling Modi’s dreams of Skilled Young India: Dr. Mahesh Sharma

New Delhi, Sep 6, 2018, “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has a dream that the young people of our country are not only graduates, they are skilled also, the diploma holder students who are in front of us today, they are torchbearers for others young people of our country,” Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Culture (IC) Govt of India said this in Delhi today.

He was addressing "Samavartan Samaroh", a program organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA) on the occasion of the completion of the first batch of its one-year diploma of three courses as a chief guest. In this program, IGNCA distributed diploma certificates to 25 students who have passed one-year Diploma in Cultural Informatics, Buddhist Studies, and Preventive Conservation.

Dr. Sharma said, “The Post Graduate Diploma courses were initiated to upkeep the mandate of IGNCA to document, preserve, conserve and disseminate the Indian Arts and Cultural Heritage and to train competent professionals to work in the specialized field of culture.”

Praising the efforts of IGNCA, Dr. Sharma said "After the joining of Dr. Schchidanand Joshi and Shri Ram Bahadur Rai, President of this center, IGNCA is making some positive change; these courses are need of today.

Announcing that the “IGNCA has been given the responsibility of documenting and digitization of the Kumbh Mela this year, so that this tradition of India can be preserved for the future generations,” Dr. Sharma said, “You know that the UNESCO recognized Kumbh Mela as World Heritage Site, This time the Kumbh Mela is going to be very different and wonderful in many ways and this time IGNCA is being given a very important responsibility of digitaization of the whole Mela." Dr Karan Singh MP of Rajya Sabha was also present in this program as a special guest.
 

Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of IGNCA said “we started one year postgraduate diploma on Cultural Informatics, Buddhist Studies and Preventive Conservation, in the academic session 2017-18 last year, after the success of the first batch of the year 2017-18, the IGNCA has started two other new one year postgraduate diploma courses from the academic session 2018-19 on Digital Library & Data Management and Manuscript and Palaeography.

“These courses endeavor to place Indian tangible and intangible arts within the integral framework of the cultural system of the upcoming scholarship. The basic aim of these courses is to create arts and culture with all its dimension and information technology to design and develop content exploration system to intensify culture learning and visualisation. It employs modern digital tools, techniques, and methodologies to achieve the intended purposes. This initiative attempts to make our ancient knowledge and achievements accessible on a multimedia platform, thus enabling communication between the ancient and modern knowledge. The theory and practice will nurture trained manpower in the respective fields. The fundamental approach of the Centre in all its courses is both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary,” Dr. Joshi said.

On this occasion, Dr. Karan Singh, MP, Rajya Sabha, congratulated a 73-year-old student who was also among the 25 students, who completed one-year diploma course from the IGNCA. Congratulating IGNCA for starting this course, Dr. Karan Singh urged IGNCA to include Upanishad also in the scope of these courses. He said, “These courses are amazing. This is a new chapter in the history of IGNCA. I must say the IGNCA has been reborn. IGNCA has a potential for being a world-class institution.”
