New Delhi, Nov 20, 2023: EPFO has added 17.21 lakh net members in September 2023, according to the provisional payroll data released today. This represents an increase of 21,475 net members compared to August 2023 and an increase of 38,262 net members compared to September 2022.
The data shows that 8.92 lakh new members enrolled in September 2023, with 58.92% of them belonging to the 18-25 age group. This indicates that the majority of new members joining the organized sector workforce are young people who are seeking their first job.
Around 11.93 lakh members exited but rejoined EPFO, choosing to transfer their accumulations instead of applying for final settlement. The number of exits decreased by 12.17% compared to the previous month, and the data shows a declining trend in the number of members exiting EPFO since June 2023.
In terms of gender, out of the 8.92 lakh new members, 2.26 lakh are female members joining EPFO for the first time. The net female member addition during the month was around 3.30 lakh.
The states with the highest net member addition are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Haryana, which together account for 57.42% of the total net member addition.
Industry-wise, there is significant growth in the members working in the Sugar industry, courier services, iron and steel, hospitals, and travel agencies.
Expert services contribute to 41.46% of the total net membership. It is important to note that the payroll data is provisional and subject to continuous updates as employee records are constantly being updated.
EPFO has been releasing monthly payroll data since April 2018, covering the period from September 2017 onwards.
The data includes new members joining EPFO through Aadhaar validated Universal Account Number (UAN), existing members exiting, and those who exited but re-joined as members.
