New Delhi Hosts 65th NPG Meeting on Key Transport Projects

New Delhi, February 9, 2024- The 65th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) convened in New Delhi, chaired by Rajeev Singh Thakur, Additional Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

The session focused on evaluating five pivotal projects spanning road, rail, and urban transit sectors, proposed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Railways (MoR), and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

NPG, in line with the PM GatiShakti principles, scrutinized these projects from the perspective of integrated planning, aligning with the National Master Plan (NMP). The evaluation aimed at enhancing connectivity with various economic and social nodes, emphasizing multi-modal infrastructure development.

Highlighted Projects:

  1. MoRTH: Highway Projects in Goa, Meghalaya, and Assam:
    • Four-laning of a 45 km stretch of NH-66 in Goa.
    • Development and upgradation of Mawlyngkhung – Panchgram road from 2-Lane to 4-lane in Meghalaya and Assam, including a greenfield stretch of 118 km and a brownfield stretch of 43 km. These projects aim to reduce logistics costs, alleviate traffic congestion, and enhance average traffic speed.
  2. MoR: Construction of Rail-Over-Rail Bulb Line in Bihar:
    • A railways project for constructing a 17.49 km ROR bulb line in Aurangabad district, Bihar. This initiative targets grade separation of two railway lines, leading to reduced train detentions, improved transit times, and enhanced logistics efficiency for coal movement to the Nabinagar power plant.
  3. MoHUA: Urban Metro Transit Projects in Bangalore and Delhi/NCR:
    • Discussion on the Rithala-Bawana-Narela–Kundli (Haryana) Metro Corridor and Phase-3 of Bangalore Metro Rail Project, focusing on multi-modal integration, decongestion of roads, travel time and fuel cost savings, reliable operation, and reduction in vehicular emissions and pollution.

The meeting highlighted the pivotal role of these projects in nation-building, emphasizing their potential to offer substantial socio-economic benefits and contribute to overall regional development.
