New Delhi, Oct 28, 2018: Dr. Lotay Tshering, a young dynamic and energetic leader and President of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa will be next Prime Minister of Himalayan kingdom Bhutan. He is expected to sworn-in in the first week of November. Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi congratulated Dr. LotayTshering on his party’s victory in the third general election in Bhutan and his own election to the National Assembly. Prime Minister Modi welcomed the successful conduct of general elections, which is an important milestone for consolidation of democracy in Bhutan.

Dr. Lotay Tshering led centre-left Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT), which was only formed in 2013, won 30 of the 47 national assembly seats, according to the results released by Bhutan's election commission.

He won because of his hard work, sincerity, vision and mission for the country. In the elections, Dr. Lotay Tshering, a urology surgeon by profession, who was trained in Bangladesh and Australia, vowed to work for "nation building" in the country which is battling high foreign debt, as well as youth employment, rural poverty and criminal gangs.

People of Bhutan listened to the 50-year old dynamic leader Dr. Tshering and gave him the mandate for next five years to rule and take the country on the path of progress and self-reliant.

Bhutan’s popular news portal http://www.kuenselonline.com has rightly written, “Lotay Tshering is an approachable character. He makes it a point to speak to whoever he meets. A devout Buddhist, he is seen always carrying prayer beads and a towel that rests on his knees when he is travelling.”

This correspondent sent a message to Dr. Tshering for his exclusive interview and got the reply within half an hour.

It is interesting to know that Dr. Lotay Tshering resigned to join politics in 2013. And also, he paid about Nu 6.2 million to the government to leave the civil service. As a politician, he campaigned then as he is now doing – to improve Bhutan’s health system. According to local media reports, Dr. Tshering believes in taking services to the people and is convinced that DNT has the best instruments to do so.

We congratulate him for his great success in the elections and getting elected as the next Prime Minister of Bhutan.
