Guwahati, Assam, [India], Dec 01, 2018: This news could be highly disturbing for Sarbanand Sonowal, BJP leader and Chief Minister of Assam. The news is that ULFA, the dreaded insurgent group of Assam is becoming active again in the state.

“After Upper Assam, now the ULFA-I sleeper cells have become active in the middle Assam.” said, Shankar Brata Raimedhi, Superintendent of Police of Nagaon, Assam on Saturday.

He also revealed that “The banned rebel outfit United Liberation Front of Asom, Independent (ULFA-I) has developed a sleeper cell in middle Assam and the members are using the social media to influence youths to join rebel outfit.”

Though it is declared by the Government of Assam that self-styled Commander in Chief Paresh Barua led insurgent outfit ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) is not at a stage to revive, some youths from upper Assam have left their home to join in the banned organization.

Paresh Barua’s own nephew Munna Barua was an employee of ONGC and he also joined ULFA in the last month. Meanwhile, four students of the 10th standard have been missing since October 11th from Jagun area of Tinsukia district of Assam.

On the other hand, another software engineer Abhijit Gogoi who had recently joined the organization mentioned that he had chosen the path of militancy because he loved his motherland and his people. A video claimed to be of Software Engineer Abhijit Gogoi, who had recently joined ULFA, has become viral on social media in Assam.

On the other hand, Health and Finance minister of the state Himanta Biswa Sarma declared again and again that it is merely media hype and only three youth had joined ULFA in the recent days.

Himanta Biswa Sarma further says, “‘Paresh Barua’s nephew had joined ULFA because Paresh Barua is becoming old and he wants to continue his legacy at this organization. This does not mean that people are supporting ULFA.”

The most important revelation by the Superintendent of Police, Nagaon Sankarbrot Raimedhi on Saturday is that the banned militant outfit is becoming strong through sleeper cell.

‘Sleeper cell is active at social media and it is helping to increase sympathizer in the state. It is through technology they are trying to revive‘.

SP Nagaon, said, “The ULFA-I have now changed their module. We are monitoring ULFA-I sympathizers, followers, and sleeper cell members.”

Surprisingly just two days ago, two flags were spotted in the heart of Guwahati city while other flags were also found in Nagaon, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat etc.

Nagaon Police has arrested two persons – Bhaskar Borah (49) and Naren Gohain (67) – for hoisting flags of the ULFA-I in Bhotai Gaon under Nagaon Sadar Police Station on November 28.

Following the unfurling of the ULFA-I flag, a case (No 4022/18) was registered to vide Nagaon Police Station Case U/S 120 (B)/121/121 (A) IPC R/W 10/13 IPC Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

Both of them have confessed regarding their involvement in the crime and their association with the banned organisation ULFA-I.

The organization had celebrated its protest day on 27th of November since 1990 against Operation Bajrang, which was launched by Indian Army to wipe out ULFA insurgents from Assam.
