Releasing the Calendar, Smt. Mahajan referred to her initiative to prepare theme based Calendars in Lok Sabha Secretariat.  She said that in consonance with this tradition, the Secretariat has brought out a Calendar for 2019 that depicts the life and messages of Mahatma Gandhi.  She hoped that this Calendar would spread a positive message and provide a right direction for a better world. Reading out the messages shown on the leaves of the Calendar, Smt. Mahajan hoped that this endeavour of Lok Sabha Secretariat would be appreciated by all.

To showcase the different shades of our treasured Parliamentary Heritage, a beginning was made in the year 1999 to bring out the Lok Sabha Calendar every year.  The first Calendar was conceptualized on the theme “Mural Paintings in Parliament House”. Since then, Calendars have been brought out on various themes highlighting Portraits and Statues of National Leaders, Presidential Processions, Important places in Parliament House, Parliament Library Building, Parliament Museum, Workforce of Parliament Complex,  Visitors to this Supreme Institution and noble inscriptions in Parliament House Building.

Under the leadership of Lok Sabha Speaker, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, a new orientation was infused in selecting the themes of the Calendar. The Lok Sabha Calendar 2019 is a tribute by a grateful nation to Gandhiji and the innate simplicity that was his hallmark – be it his watch, walking stick, slippers, spectacles and the ‘three monkeys’. The nation is celebrating  150

th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the Calendar is an abiding testimony to the growing acknowledgment of Gandhian thoughts, ideals, and his timeless teachings, not only by the people of India but by the world at large.  Under Gandhiji’s sterling leadership and his ideals of Ahimsa, Satyagraha, Sarvodaya, Swadeshi andSwaraj, our country wrested freedom from the colonial rule.
