Guwahati, January 7, 2019: The oldest NDA ally in Assam the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Monday snapped ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party led coalition government in the state. The AGP in Assam severed ties with the saffron party over the Citizen Amendment Bill that is likely to be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday.

The political fallout over the Bill took place after Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, former chief minister of Assam and the president of AGP had already given a very stern warning to the government in Assam to keep in mind the consideration of the people of Assam and also of the leaders of AGP over the Bill.

A huge protest was observed by the members of seventy organizations led by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samittee (KMSS) at Bijay Chowk , New Delhi on Monday against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

This was the second nude protest of the country against the Central government by the people of North East region for their rights and protection of their motherland.

The first nude protest was led by the women of Manipur against Indian Army in 2005 for their protection at their own place .Similarly, same protest is observed today at the capital city against the Citizenship amendment bill.

During the last visit in 4th January to Silchar, PM Narendra Modi announced that the NDA alliance is ready to safeguard the victims of partition. PM Modi said' Citizenship Bill will be the atonement for the injustice done to some people in the past .'

The comments of PM Modi again led a widespread protests in Assam against the Bill which seeks to amend the Citizenship Act 1955 to provide citizenship  to illegal migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan  who are of Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi or Christian .'When the country was divided, people had stayed back in different countries and if they face any difficulties there it is the duty of Mother India  to protect and give shelter to them.

Keeping in mind about the forthcoming parliamentary election, PM Modi followed this tactics to attract the Bengali Hindu voters of Barak Valley and West Bengal.

Meanwhile, AGP, the alliance partner of present BJP government of Assam broke the alliance today after meeting the central Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

According to the president of AGP and cabinet minister who had declared his resignation today on January 7, 2019 in Delhi Atul Bora says 'We have come to know after a long discussion with union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that the govt would ensure that the bill will be passed on Tuesday in the Parliament .So, there is no question of remaining in alliance with BJP'.

‘The most heartbreaking incident is that CM has not given us time to discuss on the same' says Atul Bora.

On the other hand, thirty organizations led by All Assam Students Union has declared 12 hours North East Bandh on 8th of January 2019 to oppose the citizenship amendment bill.

Another 70 organizations led by KMSS and AJYCP also has supported the bandh of tomorrow declared by AASU .Another two political parties Congress and AGP also have extended their full support to this bandh tomorrow .
