India’s Participation at OIC a Diplomatic Triumph: Najma

Under the leadership of Prime Minister of India, the surgical strike carried on the terrorist camp and the unanimous International support to India confirms that the entire world supports India in its fight to end terrorism.

Imphal, March 4, 2019: Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla today expressed her happiness on the participation of India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the meeting of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Abu Dhabi, where she was invited as a guest of honour.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference held at Raj Bhavan, Imphal today, the Governor lauded the Foreign Minister for placing India’s view points. She also congratulated the Prime Minister of India for his continuous effort in the last five years and for creating a positive good will and friendly relations in the global stage, especially in the Gulf and OIC countries.

Due to the goodwill gestures, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was invited as the Guest of honour and was given a platform to speak at the OIC conference despite objection raised by Pakistan.

Governor further stated that fifty years ago Fakhruti Naliamat went to Rabat to the OIC conference for the first time. He however returned back to India without giving statement due to objection raised by Pakistan. It is proud moment for India that after a gap of fifty years, India successfully participated in the OIC conference.

The Governor also said that following the terrorist attack on Parliament in 2001, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vaipayee instructed her to travel to the Gulf countries specially to express the anxiety on the growing terrorism in the sub-continent. She said that as she has personally experienced the terrorist attack on Parliament, she was happy to take part in lobbying against the menace of terrorism. Her visit to the Gulf countries was fruitful as the King of Saudi Arabia supported India and the OIC President also wholeheartedly condemned terrorism.

Governor further stated that the visit by our Prime Minister to UAE and Saudi Arabia and the warm reception accorded, reaffirms the support and the growing diplomatic ties since the past five years. In the OIC conference Sushma Swaraj had aptly put view points of India and the support given by the Gulf countries was indeed a proud moment for all Indian, she added.
