Guwahati, March 28, 2019: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah today promised to throw each and every Bangladeshi infiltrator out of Assam over the next five years.

Addressing a huge rally at Kaliabor in Assam on Thursday, Shah promised to identify every single illegal Bangladeshi infiltrator in Assam when the party comes to power once again.

“The task of identifying all the infiltrators residing in Assam now remains and we promise to throw each and every infiltrator out of Assam over the next five years,” Shah said adding that over the last five years, infiltration from Bangladesh has been successfully halted.

The parliamentary seat of Kaliabor is significant since the BJP has allocated this Lok Sabha seat to its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). The AGP has fielded Moni Madhav Mahanta, a former vice-president of the influential All Assam Students’ Union, to contest against former Congress chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s son Gaurav Gogoi from Kaliabor.

Moni Madhav Mahanta, along with AGP chief Atul Bora, and many other AGP leaders shared the dais with Shah at Kaliabor. But, the two times former chief minister and AGP legislator Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was not present in this rally.

He had already announced that he would not campaign for the party during the Lok Sabha polls to protest against its decision to ally with the BJP.

Mahanta who had described the AGP’s decision to return to the BJP-led alliance in the state as “undemocratic”,

said “I had already declared that I would not take part in campaign. My stand is clear on CAB. And I appeal the people of Assam to cast their vote to those candidates who are against CAB.”

The AGP had walked out of its alliance with the BJP in January over the latter’s firm stand to push ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, in Parliament with three of its ministers, Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta and Phani Bhushan Choudhury, resigning from the state government.

The AGP, however, decided to return to the NDA fold to contest the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the BJP in the second week of March this year.

Mahanta said there cannot be any justification for the AGP to renew the alliance since the BJP had made it amply clear that it would table the bill in Parliament again if it retains power at the Centre.

In the meeting, Shah alleged Congress for patronising Bangladeshi infiltrators and said that party had encouraged them to encroach on forest land at the Kaziranga National Park.

Shah said, “These infiltrators had turned into rhino poachers. Over the last three years, the Sarbananda Sonowal government has evicted these infiltrators from Kaziranga and the poaching of rhinos, the pride of Assam, has also stopped.”

He further said that Bangladeshi infiltrators had also been evicted from the huge tracts of lands belonging to the Vaishnavite satras that they had occupied illegally under the patronage of the earlier Congress governments in the state.

Meanwhile, the members of pro talk group of United Liberation Front of Assam have announced that they will not take part in the ensuing parliamentary election.

But I appeal to the people should not cast their valuable vote to any political party who instigate communal bias.”
