New Delhi, 20 May 2019: The exit polls out on Sunday evening is largely in favour of BJP, yet every major political party is confident of a good result. From Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, all of them showed distrust for the exit poll that indicated a comfortable victory for National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Questioning the exit poll, Naidu tweeted, "Time and again exit polls have failed to catch the people's pulse. Exit polls have proved to be incorrect and far from ground reality in many instances. While undoubtedly TDP government will be formed in AP, we are confident that non-BJP parties will form a non-BJP government at the centre.

Mamata went one step further in her tweet and said, "I don't trust Exit Poll gossip. The game plan is to manipulate or replace thousands of EVMs through this gossip. I appeal to all Opposition parties to be united, strong and bold. We will fight this battle together,"

"I appeal to all opposition parties to be united, strong and bold. We will fight this battle together," she said.

Also, Congress parliamentarian from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Shashi Tharoor tweeted, "I believe the exit polls are all wrong. In Australia last weekend, 56 different exit polls proved wrong. In India, many people don't tell pollsters the truth fearing they might be from the Government. Will wait till 23rd for the real results."

Along with Shashi the chiefs of both the Dravidian parties have dismissed the exit poll predictions. Speaking to media persons on Monday, DMK chief MK Stalin said his party does allot any credence to the poll predictions. “As our leader Kalaignar (monicker for late DMK leader M Karunanidhi) has taught us, we will wait for the official results,” he said.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Palaniswami also joined the bandwagon and quoted the experience of May 2016 Assembly elections, when a victory for the DMK was projected but the results were the opposite with J Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK sweeping to power for a rare, second consecutive term.

Lastly, Sanjay Singh of the AAP said that exit polls are only meant to mislead the public. He said that the AAP was confident of winning all 7 seats in Delhi.

He tweeted, "If TV analysts have some shame, they should remember the exit poll results of 2004 Lok Sabha elections as well as those of the 2013 and 2015 Delhi state elections, the 2018 Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan elections. Even in 2019, your campaign to make the BJP win will fail."
