Kolkata / New Delhi, July 6, 2019: The Embassy of Spain in New Delhi since 2016, in partnership with Meliá Hoteles and Guitarras Alhambra has been offering an Indian guitarist the opportunity to travel and participate in the Córdoba Guitar Festival. This year, Deepak Ponmudi, the winner of 2018 Spanish Guitar Competition will travel to Spain from 29th June to 15th July.

Ponmudi had the chance to perform his Spanish repertoire at Meliá Hoteles Gran Vía 25 and Gran Meliá Fénix in the opening days of July, apart from which he got the opportunity to travel to Alicante to visit the workshop of Guitarras Alhambra, one of the best Spanish guitar makers. On a personal note, the guitarist also met the Art Director of the Guitarras Alhambra Contest, José Luis Ruiz del Puerto.

On the days 4th to 13th July Ponmudi will be present at the Córdoba Guitar Festival where attending several master classes offered by the most distinguished guitar players in Spain, including Margarita Escarpa, Manuel Barrueco, Ricardo Gallón and Cecilia Martín will be an opportunity.

Every year, the winner of the Spanish Guitar Competition held in the framework of the Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival is awarded a scholarship to participate in the Córdoba Guitar Festival and then offer a formal recital at the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi.

In the month of July, Córdoba becomes the City of the Guitar. The Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba (Spain) is a cultural event with monographic character and various musical and artistic manifestations around this instrument which has consolidated its outstanding position in the creative and leisure offer proposed by the major festivals around the world.

Formed in 2009, the Calcutta Classical Guitar Society's activities have covered a vast spectrum of music and musician related events aimed at bringing international maestros to India, providing a non-partisan performance platform for established as well as upcoming Indian musicians and creating opportunities for learning and showcasing of talent by students. CCGS is closely linked with the Indian Guitar Federation (IGF), a federation of local and regional-level guitar societies across the country.

The aforementioned activity has been made possible thanks to the sincere collaboration between the Embassy of Spain and Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi, Meliá Hoteles (accommodation partner), Guitarras Alhambra, the Córdoba Guitar Festival and the Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival.
