A Literary Evening in London with Kamla Dutt and Urmila Jain

London/ Delhi, July 2019: Author Prof. Kamla Dutt is happy to saw that London has good readers and listeners of poetry. “Achhe Pathak Aur Shrota Hain. Divya Mathur Ne Sabko Jod Kar Rakha Hai.” Good readers and listeners are there. Divya Mathur and her organization - Vatayan has successfully kept them all united.

Vatayan: Poetry on South Bank, in collaboration with The Nehru Centre-London, which had organized a discussion/readings from the two new innovative books: ‘Montana: Translations of Gabriel Marquez’s stories’ by Urmila Jain and ‘Achchi Auratein’ by the Atlanta based researcher, Dr Kamla Dutt on 17^th of July 2019.

The special guest was Cllr Tom Aditya, Mayor of Bristol and Chair, Bristol Multi-Faith Forum, Social Campaigner and Management Consultant, who congratulated the authors as well as Vatayan for promoting and propagating Hindi abroad.

The famous Colombian novelist and short-story writer, Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez, who received the Nobel Prize in 1982, has been translated into many languages around the world. The eminent author and translator, Dr Urmila Jain has taken up the difficult task of translating some of his stories into Hindi. She has published several collections of African stories into Hindi - Africa Road, Pyar Botswana ki baaris jaisa hai and Eeshwar ke parinde.

Prof Kamla Dutt, who has made a major contribution in the Stem cell research & Tissue engineering, is also an award winning story writer, who has also acted in many plays. Her story collections include Machchli saleeb par tangi, Kamla Dutt ki yaadgaar kahaniya, and Achchi auratein, both have been highly acclaimed. She has received the All India Gaiety Theatre Acting Award, Regional Youth Festival Award and the State Awards for Prem Chand’s 'Dhania' (University Colour Awardee for Theatre).

After a brief welcome by the Chair of Vatayan and Director of Akademi, Mira Kaushik, OBE, Dr Nikhil Kaushik, eye surgeon, producer-director, film-maker and poet, compered the programme superbly. The excellent reviews were presented by Dr Achala Sharma, eminent author and broadcaster, and Shail Agrawal, writer, poet, editor of Lekhni, followed by dramatized readings by the authors. Dr Jain read her short but dramatic ghost story, ‘Us Pratapi in Bhoot’. A brief questions and answer session with each of the writer was also held. In chair was Dr Padmesh Gupta, poet and Director of Oxford Business School. Along with the founder of Vatayan, Divya Mathur, Cllr Tom Aditya presented mementos to the participants of the programme. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks presented by Arun Sabbarwal, an author.
