New Delhi, Aug 22, 2019: The Jungfraujoch is one of Switzerland's highest peaks located in between the states of Berne and Valais. It is amongst the most beautiful regions of Switzerland.

The big three mountains of Eiger, Monch, and Jungfraujoch form part of the Swiss Alps. The Jungfrau stands tall at 13,642 feet and is admired for its elegant white beauty. The Mönch (13,015 ft) has a rounded summit and is considered to be the protector of Jungfraujoch.

The Eiger- smallest of the three mountains is the one where the actor Clint Eastwood swung on a rope in the film The Eiger Sanction based on the 1972 novel by Trevanian.

Of all the three mountains, Jungfrau is the most popular and records impressive no. of travelers and tourists from all parts of the world. It's also interesting to know that Jungfrau was named after the Augustiner nuns who grazed their cattle on the alpine meadows.

One could reach the top of Jungfrau by taking a cogwheel mountain train from Interlaken Ost to the Jungfraujoch which is an experience in itself and a quintessential element of a trip to the Swiss Alps.

In operation since 1912, the Jungfraujoch is Switzerland's most popular railway trip, with 500,000 passengers a year. The two and a half hours journey through tunnels, glaciers and waterfalls, forests and gorges, post card- pretty towns, scenic splendor and seemingly endless miles of green-- is as important and thrilling as the destination itself.

The Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe station at is at 3,454 m (11,333 ft) the highest mountain railway station in Europe and offers splendid views of the Jungfrau and Mönch Alpine peaks, glaciers, valleys, and on a bright sunny day, all the way to the Vosges in France and the Black forest of Germany.

You step down the train and here you are standing on the Jungfraujoch- 3,454 meters above sea level. It feels amazing!! This is an entirely different world. The stunning panorama of snow-capped mountains and glaciers, icy air streams across your face and snow crunches under your feet leave an indelible impression on you.

What leaves you mesmerized is a rendezvous with the black beauty of the white Jungfrau. The Alpine chough, or yellow-billed chough is a bird in the crow family. It is easily recognizable because of its shiny black feathers, short yellow bill and red legs. This bird is social and enjoys being photographed by tourists. If you are lucky then you may find one or couple of them showing off their skills and adorably posing for you.
