IGNCA's 8th series of "Sanjari: Ek Bharat- Shresth Bharat "

In order to preserve and promote the fading traditional folk music of different parts of the country, the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts (IGNCA) has initiated a beautiful programme series in Delhi.

Started on 30th Foundation Day of the Center, the IGNCA is organizing "Sanjari: Ek Bharat-Shreshth Bharat" series every month in which colorful traditional folk music of different parts of the country are being showcased in Delhi every month.

“The basic idea behind organizing this series is to ensure that the fading music of different parts of the country is showcased to common people in Delhi”, said Dr. Sachidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts (IGNCA), under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Under the Chairmanship of Shri Ram Bahadur Rai, veteran Journalist, the IGNCA, is trying to make the Folk Music of various parts of the country available to the listeners of India’s capital city in their original form so that this folk music can maintain its existence and reach the new generation in its original form.

So far, the center has organized seven episodes of “Sanjari: Ek Bharat-Shreshth Bharat" in which folk artists from Arunachal, Bihar, and Rajasthan, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Delhi, and Sikkim have made their performances successfully.

In the 8th series of “Sanjari: Ek Bharat-Shreshth Bharat" series, IGNCA has organized the folk performance of the artists representing 6 states in three days. In the first session of the first day, Mrs. Krishna Verma, the famous folk singer of Madhya Pradesh and her team performed the Malvi folk songs. While in the second session, Ranjit Gogoi from Assam presented popular folk music of Assam with the troupe in front of the audience.

Mrs. Krishna Verma is famous for folk singing and folk drama, she’s also a famous artist for the Malwa's famous heritage “Sanja”& “Mandna” and her works are displayed in museums of many countries. She has received ‘Malav Sanskriti Samman and ‘Shikhar Samman by the Madhya Pradesh Government.

Mrs. Verma started her singing with Ganesh Vandana, "Gauri Ka Nand Ganesh Manavan Ho Ji" and after this she sung welcome song "Tambolan", “tambolan laavo kevadiya pan mhare ghare aayo he Shri Ram, Then in continuation she sung “kanchan Thal Sajavo albeli motiyan chok puravo”, Monsoon Song “mewaji aap barso ne dharti nibje ….” And Haldi song “Aeji Mahari chatar baniji ko byav suvagan haldi ji mhara raaj” etc. She sung 11 folk songs of Malawa. 

Popular Assamese Folk Artist Ranjit Gogoi started his presentation with Assamese Dhol and presented the song "Bor Geet” based on the devotion of Krishna Bhakti by the spiritual guru of Assam, Shrimant Shankar Dev and his disciple Madhav Dev.

Ranjit Gogoi also presented folk songs of different tribes of Assam, such as Hajong, Karbi and Rabha Tribes.  They sung the famous Bagurunbha song of Bodo tribe also. He finished his performance with the famous Assamese Bihu song.

In the second day of 8th series of “Sanjari: Ek Bharat-Shresth” series folk artist from Jharkhand and Manipur will present their folk songs from 5 PM at IGNCA Auditorium on 19th of July, 2018. The series will continue till 20th of July.
