108 International Women Leaders in STEM Connect in US for TechWomen 2019

WASHINGTON / NEW DELHI; SEP 28; 2019:

One hundred and eight women leaders in the science; technology; engineering; and math (STEM) fields from Africa; the Middle East; and South and Central Asia will arrive in the United States on September 28 for the TechWomen 2019 exchange program; sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. 

TechWomen brings emerging women leaders in science; technology; engineering and mathematics (STEM) from Africa; Central and South Asia; and the Middle East together with their professional counterparts in the United States for a mentorship and exchange program. TechWomen provides participants access to networks; resources; and knowledge to empower them to reach their full potential.

Through mentorships with U.S. women leaders in STEM fields; the TechWomen participants will strengthen business ties and build stronger professional networks to advance their work and benefit their communities. Upon their return home; participants will encourage more women and girls to pursue STEM careers.

The participants will spend five weeks collaborating with 40 U.S. private sector companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley before convening in Washington; D.C. The leaders will return home to implement their action plans and join other program alumnae to serve as mentors themselves to women and girls in their communities.

The 2019 companies include: 23andMe; Adobe; Airbnb; Autodesk; BigCommerce; Cahill Contractors Inc.; Chan Zuckerberg Biohub; Druva; Glassdoor; GoDaddy; Google; Juniper Networks; Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; LinkedIn; Lyft; Microsoft; Mozilla; Northgate Environmental Management; Okta; One Medical; Pacific Gas & Electric; Qualcomm; Salesforce.com; San Francisco Department of the Environment; Splunk; SS&C Advent; SunPower; SurveyMonkey; Symantec; Synopsys; Twitch; Twitter; UC Berkeley; CITRIS Foundry; Unity Technologies; University of California; San Francisco; Veritas; VMware; Wells Fargo; Zenefits; and Zume.

In San Francisco; media are invited to attend a Cultural Kickoff event at Airbnb on September 30 and a Community Celebration event at Twitter on October 28. The closing reception at the U.S. Department of State in Washington; D.C. on November 1 will also be open to the press.
