India Celebrates Dussehra

New Delhi, Oct 9, 2019: Vijayadashmi, known as the festival of triumph of good over evil was celebrated across India on Tuesday. The festival, also known as Durga Puja and Dussehra is celebrated to remember Lord Ram's victory over Ravana, marking the triumph of good over evil. The day also marks the culmination of Navratri and Durga Puja.

President Ram Nath Kovind participated in Dussehra celebrations at Indraprastha Extension in New Delhi and burnt the effigy of Ravana. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kovind said, Dussehra is a celebration of the triumph of truth over untruth.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh attended Dussehra at Lal Quila parade ground in Old Delhi. Inhis address, Mr Naidu said, Dussehra is a celebration of the universal law that truth alone triumphs in the end.

In West Bengal, Bijoya Dasami, the last day of Durga Puja, was celebrated with the immersion of the Durga idols.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is a land of festivals and every festival brings the society together.

Addressing Dussehra Celebrations at DDA Ground in Dwarka in the National Capital last evening, Mr. Modi said, festivals connect and mold people.

PM Modi said, if people want to understand the power of collective spirit, they must seek inspiration from Lord Krishna and Lord Ram.

He participated in the special puja at the venue and burnt the effigy of Ravana, signifying the victory of good over evil.

Prime Minister Modi urged the people not to waste food, and conserving energy and water. Speaking at a Dussehra event in the national capital yesterday evening, Mr Modi said that as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in his 150th birth anniversary year, people should take up the mission of not wasting food and avoiding single-use plastic.

Prime Minister also stressed the need work for the empowerment of women and ensuring their dignity by taking forward the spirit of Navratra. Mr Modi called upon people to felicitate the daughters who have achieved something or who have inspired others during Diwali this year.

The Prime Minister said, India is a land of Shakti Sadhna and in the last nine days people worshipped Mother Goddess. He said it's our responsibility to respect every daughter in India. Taking the spirit ahead, he called upon people to always work towards furthering empowerment as well as the dignity of women.

Prime Minister also hailed the valour of the Indian Air Force and asked people to especially remember it on its raising day like they pay respect to Lord Hanuman on Vijayadashami. Mr. Modi said its a coincidence that this year the two events are being celebrated on the same day.
