India & Africa: Partners in Growth, Prosperity and Shared Destiny

NEW DELHI, Oct 17, 2019: In order to take forward the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and focus on robust engagement with the African counties, the Millennial India International Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (MIICCIA) is hosting a Business Meet titled “India & Africa: Partners in Growth, Prosperity and Shared Destiny” on Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Hotel Royal Plaza, Ashoka Road, New Delhi. Heads of Mission of all the African countries in India have been invited to the Event.

“Africa is a continent on the move, characterized by rapid economic growth, rising educational and health standards, and expanding infrastructure and connectivity. The region has witnessed growing trade, investments, and a surge in innovation. African governments and leaders are playing an active role in shaping the continent’s future. Various non-western powers like China, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia are also expanding their presence in the continent,” said Ambassador Anil Trigunayat, IFS (Retd.) a Former Ambassador to Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Libya and Malta & President, Millennial India International Chamber of Commerce Industry & Agriculture (MIICCIA).

Africa’s importance to India as a development partner is visible with the decision to enter into a structured engagement with African countries under the framework of India Africa Forum Summit (IAFS). In recent years, the African continent has been accorded top priority in Indian foreign and economic policy; there has been an unprecedented intensification of political engagement,” said Gaurav Ravish, Additional Director, MIICCIA while justifying the topic of MIICCIA Business Meet focusing on India & Africa.

“Trade between India & Africa has grown exponentially during the past 15 years. It stood at US$ 62.66 billion in 2017-2018 making India the fourth largest trading partner of Africa. EXIM Bank has already provided over US$ 8 billion as LoC to African countries. Africa with a population of over one billion with a combined GDP of 2.5 trillion dollars makes it a huge potential market. India’s investments in Africa have also steadily increased,” said Ambassador Anil Trigunayat.

Shri V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs is expected to be the Chief Guest, while Ambassador P. Harish, Additional Secretary (ED & States) will be the Guest of Honour. Senior officials from the Ministries of External Affairs and Commerce & Industry will share their perspectives. Senior officers from EXIM Bank, Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) and WAPCOS Ltd will share their success stories in Africa. Quite a number of large Indian companies will give presentations.

The Event aims to identify new economic opportunities in the African continent and to create reliable networks for the Indian business and industry in a unique format where the Ambassadors of all the African countries are expected to share their perspectives and business opportunities in their respective countries. The Conference will be followed by a networking lunch.

A significant number of people from the business& industry is expected to participate at the Event and network for mutually beneficial opportunities.

The event is part of a program titled “Ambassadors Speak” planned by MIICCIA. The first was “Exploring Latin American Business Opportunities – Prospects & Potentials, followed by “India – ASEAN: Connecting for Business”, and the third one “India – Central Asia and beyond towards Growth & Prosperity”. After the present event on “India – Africa”, next in the series is and ‘India – Arab World”.
