KOHIMA, [NAGALAND], NOVEMBER 14, 2019: In a major boost in the ongoing peace talks between the Union Government and the Naga Groups, another Naga group announced to join the peace process. The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) yesterday stated that it had joined the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) to be a part of the peace process in order to secure a better future for the Zeliangrong people living in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

In a press release the ZUF said it had realised that if it did not become a party to the peace process, the younger generation of Zeliangrong people would have no future post solution of the Naga issue. The ZUF has said that it had decided to join the NNPGs, which were holding talks with the Government of India alongside the NSCN (I-M), to resolve the Naga issue.

The release, issued by the information and publicity wing of the group said that as the Centre had taken a decision not to admit any more tribal outfits in the process, the ZUF decided to ally with the NSCN (Unification) for a political solution to the Naga issue on the one hand and the better future of the Zeliangrong people on the other.

Stating that the Zeliangrong people have been struggling for a single administrative and political system for a common homeland, the ZUF said the Zeliangrong areas were being encroached on, and colonised by non-indigenous Zeliangrong tribes on the pretext of a political conflict with India, it added that after a careful analysis of the pros and cons, the ZUF joined the NNPGs in the peace talks as an integral part of the NSCN (Unification) or the GPRN/NSCN with the assurance that the political aspirations of the Zeliangrong people would be kept alive and pursued through democratic political processes in the post-solution scenario, the release said.
