Guwahati, Nov 24, 2019: Taking initiative to follow the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build Guwahati as the center of South East Asia, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led BJP Government of Assam has organized a two-day Seminar Cum Exhibition on Modern Technologies & Construction Materials in Guwahati from November 23.

Over 120 construction companies from across the country and the globe are discussing the issues such as Road Safety, Construction of elevated corridor in a congested city, Restoration of city Rivers and Lakes through the natural process, and Application of Remote sensing in civil engineering on the instructions of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Speaking on this occasion, Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal outlined the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Guwahati the center of southeast Asia. He asked all concerned to work towards full filling the dreams of PM Modi.

“I request the PWD minister to set up a contractor's skill development center. This will help the young and upcoming contractors understand the skills required to serve their responsibility towards society. To gain those skills, I strongly believe that the center is essential. We feel that each contractor can come forward in building the nation. Tata is a good example of how society can be served with quality work,” said CM Sarbananda Sonowal.

Chief Minister Sonowal further said that “Assam has to compete with other states when it comes to building roads and highways.” Chief Minister stressed the quality work by the PWD contractors and also urged the Assam Public Works Department to work towards this vision to attract the 80 crore population of the South East Asia region.

On this occasion, PWD minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that in the past four years, the Public Works Department (PWD), Assam, has brought tremendous progress and transformation in the state.

Attending the Seminar with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal here in the city the PWD minister also said that the department should not be allowed to be run by the contractors.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also Health and Finance Minister of Assam said, “New materials used in construction of buildings and roads can be seen here in this exhibition. Many stalls have showcased new technology. I believe, this exhibition will no doubt benefit the department but will also help the common public who are thinking about constructing new homes. They will get to know about the latest technology here in the exhibition. They can check the new materials demonstrated here and may find better options.”

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma advised the engineers to be studious and to use modern technology and materials to achieve the frontlines in the world. He also added that the highly educated engineers of PWD department can take the initiative of using these modern techniques and materials in Assam. He advised making their attendance mandatory in the seminars.
