WOMEN'S DAY SPECIAL WITH SHREE, AN ARTISTE IN INDIAN ADVERTISING INDUSTRY

You know why Self-Love is trending is because, for decades and centuries, women have suppressed their needs and want to make lives better of others. But in this entire brouhaha of running a family and completing duties, they'd completely forgotten themselves and often started developing health situations, mentally or physically. So yes self-love is really the key to happiness.

Shree Upadhyaya, also known as Shree, is a reputed Indian artiste in advertising and has done many big brands like MDH, Cool winks, Godrej, Cipla, HDFC, ICICI, MTR, Nutralite and has done promo ads with most big channels. Her international short film, Denude, has been screened in Warner Bros LA and another film, Once Again, won many international awards across America.  Interestingly, Shree is also a therapist and a healer, (having been internationally certified from both UK and USA) and has founded her own business of contribution called Mystique, which provides meditations and healing services of various kinds of therapy. On the occasion of women's day, we spoke to her about how a woman can handle stress and increase mental strength during trying times.

IOP – Hi Shree, congratulations on your MDH commercial, it's doing very well !

Ans- Thank you so much, I'm truly humbled that it got broadcasted well and so many praises came my way for the same.

IOP- You've also been multitasking. I mean you are in acting, modeling with other professions such as therapy and healing. How's that going?

Ans - It's going well, some days it gets hectic as both are demanding professions that need constant involvement.

IOP - So how do you cope with the stress of your demanding jobs?

Ans - You know, to be honest, due to back to back work I did go through a burnout recently, which spoke of a message loud and clear - Ease. There needs to be more ease with everything. By that, I don't mean to say to get lazy, but to really nurture our bodies enough so that even the so-called tough jobs can be done in a relaxed manner.

IOP - Since it's women's day, and you're a girl donning many hats, how do you maintain your calm during trying times?

Ans - I actually have designed my life in such a way that no matter how hectic time is, personally or professionally, I know I'll bounce back. Of course, I'm a big wellness aficionado so meditations, yoga, body processes of therapy (that I do on others), healing tools are my go-to. Time spent in nature is therapeutic too.

IOP - That's great, how do you think other women can cope up with the daily stress they go through, regularly?

Ans - You know, I've met many women in terms of my own clients (as a therapist) who've faced so much like domestic or verbal violence at home, harassment, bullying, pay disparity or politics at the workplace or constant emotional abuse or gaslighting from the partner. And they end up creating more unfortunate health situations by tolerating all this.

The first thing I tell them is to love and nurture themselves fully. How you would nurture a child, nourish yourself like that. Secondly, I ask them to respect, honour their needs and choices and where there's a lot of rampant stress or abuse, it's best to have boundaries and move out of that space.

And then replenish to realise their full potential. Once you're healed and replenished, go ahead with self-discipline, productivity and efficiency to achieve your dreams. I feel relaxation and discipline can go hand in hand!

IOP - So how do you suggest ways of self-nurturing or the popular trending term - self-love?

Ans - You know why self-love is trending is because, for decades and centuries, women have suppressed their needs and want to make lives better of others. But in this entire brouhaha of running a family and completing duties, they'd completely forgotten themselves and often started developing health situations, mentally or physically. So yes self-love is really the key to happiness.

IOP- That's interesting! Because we always thought that illness is created by external factors?

Ans - I thought so too, but after studying energy medicine and healing others, I've come to understand that any illness is created first internally when you're not at ease. Which is why it's called dis-ease.

IOP - Okay, so how can women increase their psychological strength in such stressful times?

Ans - I feel firstly a woman has to choose if certain people or situations are even working in her favour and contributing to her health or not. I've seen so many people-pleasing women being truly unhappy in their lives. Then they're either creating health issues or making people around them unhappy. They need to acknowledge their needs first and then contribute to others. I feel only when you're truly happy and joyful, can you really make a change in others' lives.

True happiness and choices to contribute to self and others develop strength in so many ways. And of course, the other wellness mediums of therapy, meditations, gratitude, yoga, group consciousness exercises. In today's world, there's no dearth of choices!

IOP - Thank you so much for this interview, wish you so much progress in all your endeavors.

Ans - Thank you for the chat, always fun to speak with you.
