New Delhi, March 27, 2020: In the present critical times of Coronavirus pandemic disaster, a non-governmental organisation Prayas is actively rendering direct services to the most deserving and needy from the remote Islands of Andmans to Lohit and Namsai districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Prayas is a Non-governmental organization based in Delhi, India. It was founded in 1988 by ex-Delhi DCP Amod Kanth after being moved by the destruction caused by fire to makeshift homes and ragged shelters built by children in the slums of Jahangirpuri in Delhi.
The charity received international recognition for anti-trafficking initiatives by the 2006 Trafficking in Persons Report published by the US Department of State. Amod Kanth, the head of Delhi Police and founder of Prayas, was commended as an international "model of public service" for his efforts on behalf of India's children.
“We are working in these and various States/UTs along with the government and civil society to provide the most essential and disaster related services in Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, A&N Islands and other areas,” said Amod Kanth, a former IPS officer and General Secretary, Prayas JAC Society & Chairman Domestic Workers Sector Skill Council.
“Most of our 38 homes and Shelters for the Children, Women and their Families along with the Homeless besides our six Helplines (1098) are fully functional, he said.
“Our unique and well provided Health Centres are lifelines in remote Arunachal and Supaul in Bihar besides in Delhi,” Kanth said.
