New Delhi, April 05, 2020:

Panthers Party leaders from various parts of the country in online video calls paid tributes to former Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 113th birthday today. Led by Prof. Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of J&K National Panthers Party and comprising Mr. Yashpal Kundal Ex-Minister J&K, Mr. Faqir Nath, Kx-MLA, Mr. Sanjoy Sachdev Advisor Panthers Party (Delhi), Mr. Naresh Ambedkar, President Tamil Nadu National Panthers Party and other leaders from UP, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh remembered Babu Jagjivan Ram and his contribution for the Nation particularly when he was Agriculture Minister and Defence Minister of India.

Jagjivan Ram (5 April 1908 – 6 July 1986), known popularly as Babuji, was an Indian independence activist and politician from Bihar. He was instrumental in the foundation of the All India Depressed Classes League, an organisation dedicated to attaining equality for untouchables, in 1935 and was elected to Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1937, after which he organised the rural labour movement.

It is worth remembering that Late Babu Jagjivan Ram and Late D. Devraj Urs, the then President of Indian National Congress went to Amethi in support of Prof. Bhim Singh (then MLA in Jammu & Kashmir) who was contesting Parliamentary by-election against Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, Congress I candidate. Mr. Sanjoy Sachdev who was actively supporting Prof. Bhim Singh in Amethi was an associate of Late Babu Jagjivan Ram and then a Secretary of the Congress (J) headed by Babuji.

The Panthers leaders accused the Union Government led by Mr. Modi for ignoring the Samta Day celebration on Babu Ji’s birthday which was attended heavily by most of the democratic-secular and social parties in India. It is regretted that instead of paying public homage to Babu Ji, the Prime Minister hurt the people of India by issuing a kind of message on Twitter, whereas Union Ministers and others observed a distance from Samta space.

Prof. Bhim Singh said that it is an insult to the contribution and history of one of the greatest builders of present India who represent Parliament of India from 1936 to 1986 without any break. The longest service to the Nation than any other leader in the country who represented the people of India before Independence and after Independence.

Panthers leaders also described Babu Jagjivan Ram as one of the great revolutionaries who led the movement to develop the classless society in India which has contributed heavily after the leadership of Dr. B.R Ambedkar whose contribution towards promoting a classless society under the Constitution of India.

Prof. Bhim Singh when in the Congress Party as Secretary-General of the Indian Youth Congress had an opportunity to work under the guidance of Babu Jagjivan Ram ji.  He expressed thanks to Mr. Sanjoy Sachdev, for organizing today’s Video Conference from Delhi where we could join all associates to remember Babu Jagjivan Ram ji.

He expressed thanks to Mr. Naresh Ambedkar, President Tamil Nadu Panthers Party, Mr. Yash Paul Kundal, Ex-MLA & General Secretary-Panthers Party, Mr. Faqir Nath Ex-MLA Panthers Party and noted SC leaders in Panthers Party from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal. He also expressed an apology to those who felt disappointed because the Panthers Party could not organize Samta Day at Samta Sathal Delhi because of Lockdown imposed by the Prime Minister to fight against Coronavirus.
