Third COVID-19 Patient Confirmed in the State; Dc Seals Quarantine Centre

A 31-year man from Khomidok Masjid Maning in Imphal East district, who returned from Mumbai with a patient (non-COVID), tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday evening. With this, the total number of positive cases has gone up to three in the state.

However, the first two patients who tested positive in March and April have been cured.
According to COVID-19 Common Control Room, the patient had returned from Mumbai by landroute via Jiribam on Wednesday in a hired vehicle. He was quarantined at Jamia Halima Aziz, Khabeisoi.

His sample was tested on Thursday at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal, where it was found to be positive for COVID-19. He has been kept at COVID Treatment Block/ Isolation ward of INIMS. Contact tracing and active surveillance in the containment zone will be done immediately.According to sources, the man had returned from Mumbai where his father was treated for cancer. Unfortunately, his 48-year-old mother succumbed to COVID-19 in Mumbai last week.

As a preparatory arrangement, District Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and Surveillance Teams have been constituted in all the districts, including 40 (forty) sub-surveillance teams in each district. COVID treatment Blocks  at JNIMS and RIMS are in readiness.

Quarantining of returning persons for 14 days and social distancing by all remains vital to break the spread of COVID-l9 in Manipur, Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Addl. Director and Spokesperson, Health Department stated in the press release. He also appealed the people to co-operate for collective safety of the State.

Meanwhile, for effective management of people entering and exiting the state, two officers have been assigned responsibility with immediate effect and until further orders.

M Harekrsihna, IAS, commissioner has been stationed at Mao along with DC Senapati while Ranjit Singh, IAS Commissioner at Jiribam. He will coordinate and monitor entr of passengers by train and also by road, Chief Secretary said in an order. It directed the officers to proceed to the stations immediately.

Following the report of the individual tested positive for COVID-19, Imphal East DC has sealed the building of Jamia Halima Aziz, Khabeisoi where the man was quarantined earlier.
Impha East DC Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom on Thursday issued the order to this effect in exercise of the power conferred under pra 12 of the Manipur Epidemic disease, COVID-19 Regulations act 2020.

The DC issued the containment measures to prevent spread of the disease after the individual from Khomidok Masjid Maning tested positive. 

The said building is completely sealed and any person/institution/organization found violating any of the containment shall be deemed to have committed an offence under section 188 of the IPC, the DC stated.
