New Delhi, Aug 26, 2018, Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust, a trust founded by parents of the Rape victim 'Nirbhaya', whose case had shook the country to its core, is proving to be a crusader in empowering women from every walk of life in India.
In the pursuits of the same, first Nirbhaya Jyoti National Women Achievers’ Excellence Award ceremony was organised on 24th August 2018 at India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi.
This award was an acknowledgment to various women achievers who have showcased the level of prowess women are capable of, in the worst adversaries of life. The said Award Ceremony acknowledged 21 women achievers from every walk of life, all over India.
Out of 21 awardees, Smt. Shanti Bala Devi, 85 years old, a woman with a magnanimous heart, great determination and vigor, from Varanasi, was the first awardees. She devoted her life to basic education and social rehabilitation of underprivileged girls from society. Few of other awardees were Dr. Sangita Gupta, IRS income tax commissioner, poet and author; Sanjukta Parashar, IPS encounter Specialist; Laxmi Agarwal, acid attack victim; Ira Singhal, IAS officer, and a UPSC topper; etc were acknowledged in the ceremony.
Smt. Shanti Bala Devi could not reach the dais because of her physical incapacity, therefore the Chief Guest including Nafiza Ali( senior actor and socialist), Mrs. Sulekha Khumbhare( member, minority commission of India) and Parents of Nirbhaya- Smt Asha Devi and Mr. Badri Prasad, in a token of their respect reached to Smt. Shanti Bala Devi to present her with the award.
Smt. Shanti Bala Devi has laid various examples of women empowerment to the society at large by way of women entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and striving for better social life with limited resources.
