Completely Chopped Off Hand of a Driver Reunited at Kalinga Hospital, Bhubaneswar

Amid fear of corona infection as a frontline warrior a rare surgery performed at Kalinga hospital Bhubaneswar, Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 10, 2020:  

A 25 years truck driver while driving truck on state highway somewhere near Salabani west Midnapore, West Bengal put his right hand on rest over right side window of truck.

Suddenly another truck crossed nearby and hit to his right upper limb which got amputated by shear force.so after little first aid at local hospital patient shifted to Odisha and reached Kalinga Hospital at 1 a.m on 2nd june 2020.

Since patient brought the amputated part unpreserved immediately that had been kept inside freeze at optimum temperature. Patient stabilized haemo -dynamically and sufficient blood was arranged to start surgery.

Operation started at 7 a.m on 2nd June and finished at 5.30 p.m almost after 10 hours.

A team of doctors completed the process under guidance of main plastic surgeon Dr Akshay Kumar Rout.

Since covid -19 status was not known and patient is from very low financial background he was undertaken for surgery with minimum payment showing nerves.

Now patient is doing well and recovering and reimplanted parts are viable Dr Rout thanked his team Rimpi Jain Plastic Surgeon, Dr Gayadhar Behera, Orthopedician, Dr Karunakar, Anaethesia.
