Modi Knows Only ‘Jumlas’, Nitish Failed To Stop Migration

Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Thursday launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing the former of peddling “empty promises” and the latter of presiding over “20 years of failed governance” that has forced the state’s youth to migrate for work.
Addressing a public meeting here in support of Mahagathbandhan candidate Mangal Ram, Kharge began his speech with a personal anecdote, alleging political interference. “I was supposed to be here at 12:40 PM, but I was held at the airport. I was told I could not take off until Modi ji’s flight had departed. Those who always obstruct me are from the BJP,” he claimed, apologising to the crowd for the two-hour delay.
In a speech that blended sharp political rhetoric with a list of poll promises, Kharge methodically targeted the Prime Minister’s record. “Narendra Modi’s only job is to travel. He has no target for the country's welfare. When he comes to India, the election campaign starts. He has never sat for an hour or two to think about the country,” he said.
He then proceeded to list what he called PM Modi’s “list of jumlas (rhetoric)”, asking the crowd to respond after each one:
-
“He said he would bring back black money and deposit ₹15 lakh in every account – Did he do it?” (Crowd replied: No)
-
“He said he would give two crore jobs every year to the youth – Did he do it?” (Crowd replied: No)
-
“He said he would double the MSP for farmers – Did he do it?” (Crowd replied: No)
Training his guns on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Kharge questioned the development narrative. “Nitish Babu took the oath as Chief Minister nine times. It’s been 20 years, but where is the development? The poor are still fleeing Bihar for Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru. If you have even a little shame, you should stop this migration first,” he asserted.
Positioning the election as a battle for social justice, Kharge accused the BJP-RSS of wanting to “bring back the Manusmriti, which Babasaheb Ambedkar burnt.
